Dumisani Washington: Praying for my Nigerian brothers and
sisters who will vote in yet another pivotal election this weekend. Boko
Haram's massacre over the past 3 years has been intended to alter the
electorate to ensure sharia become the law of the land. May G-d nullify those
plans, and bring peace to Africa's most populace and prosperous nation. May He
protect the Christians who, like their brothers in Syria and Iraq, are being
slaughtered by Islamic jihadists bent on destruction. And may G-d especially
watch over the Igbo Hebrews who themselves suffered a genocide in Biafra just
one generation ago.
Blessings on Israel who has been a
loyal, faithful ally in this struggle.

John Smith I hope
it won't be inappropriate of me to ask a question, but if Barack Obama really
cares about peace and if he really cares about black lives, why hasn't he done
anything to stop Boko Haram since the time they kidnapped several hundred
school girls (prompting Michelle Obama to start a "bring back our
girls" campaign)?

Avi Eisenberg Dumisani,
I have a question, was it the Nigerians or the Biafrans that perpetrated
genocide against Igbo Jews? I was heavily spammed by Biafran activists a couple
weeks ago on Twitter and sounds like you'd know way more than Wiki.
Olga Meshoe Amen, amen

Abe Wale Lawrence: My
brother, there's a point I need to correct in your post. There was no genocide
against the Igbos during the civil war, except before the war when there was
attack against them in the North, however, attacks like that is not strange in
Nigeria. We are living in a country where people are divided along tribal lines
and sentiments. I think Igbo people pay the ultimate price for trying to break
away from Nigeria. With our oneness we shall become great.
Abe Wale Lawrence: Meanwhile,
if you take a look at the fact of the whole occurrence, Igbo people started the
flames of hatred against them by Northerners, Northerners too took it too far.
Thus, in anyway in a polity, no group must try to dominate one another,
equality and true justice must be maintained. The Igbo people started with the
first coup of Jan 15, 1966...killing of mainly Northern politicians and some
Southwestern politicians. Later, the attempt by the then military leader, Gen.
JTU Aguiyi Ironsi, an Igbo man to bring unitary system of government in Nigeria
so as to lord the Igbos over the rest of the country. Notes that people hate me
because I'm very blunt and never afraid to say the truth. My fiancée is an Igbo
lady, I love her so much, yet I shouldn't be moved by sentiment to make a wrong
comment
Avi Eisenberg I
don't get it, Abe. Are you saying the Igbo weren't trying to cecede and create
their own country?
Abe Wale Lawrence They
tried to secede from the union, and that led to the civil war
Avi Eisenberg And
I gather you believe all the different peoples the Europeans squished into a
country of their convenience should try to unite as one?
Abe Wale Lawrence Nope,
that's not my point. Nigeria is a country comprised of over 250 language groups
and many religions. But the common identity we all share is the Nigerian
identity under one common nationhood umbrella called Nigeria, it's politically
sinful for any group to try to break away from the union, it's equally
politically sinful for any group to try to dominate another.
Abe Wale Lawrence The
Federal government under Abe Lincoln never allowed the South to break away.
Why? Because the unity and integrity of a nation must be defended at all cost
Abe Wale Lawrence Even
where such is to happen, such act must take place via consensus ad idem of all
units comprising the federation
Avi Eisenberg I
think liberty comes before some artificial union propped up with force. If
someone tries to gain independence it's kinda implied that someone is
oppressing the other when they force them to stay.
And the Confederacy should have won. America would very likely be in a much better place if the states had more rights.
And the Confederacy should have won. America would very likely be in a much better place if the states had more rights.
Abe Wale Lawrence Liberty
without constraints leads to craziness and regret.
Avi Eisenberg Maybe
"liberty" means different things to us? It's basic human rights to
me.
Abe Wale Lawrence Liberties
are natural endowment, no doubt about that, but there must be some derogation
otherwise it would lead to social dislocation and disorder
Abe Wale Lawrence Even
fishes in the ocean cannot swim boundlessly
Avi Eisenberg I
think it's kind of inherent in the modern concept of liberty that you aren't at
liberty to kill people as you see fit or steal from people as you should be
free to do what you want. That's just chaos.
I think the important part of liberty is to respect the liberty of your fellow man or no one can really have it.
I think the important part of liberty is to respect the liberty of your fellow man or no one can really have it.
Abe Wale Lawrence Yes,
that's the most important liberty peaceful expression of your ideals...those
ideals that are not in breach of peace, those ideals that cannot cause your
neighbour any form of injury
Abe Wale Lawrence That's
why those rights are qualified under States' laws. Those rights must be
recognised by the State before we can enjoy them
Abe Wale Lawrence State
cannot in turn act arbitrarily towards the guarantee of such rights through an
unjust law, because lex injustitia non est lex

Jacob Odo'zi: Prayers
for the end of political and economic corruption the country is known for in
recent history.
I don't think we need Ann Frank diary to relate how genocide was committed. Large section of Igbo Jews ( including women and children) were killed and starved in that avoidable civil war.
Maybe, my brother Abe, studied that historic truth differently. But we must move on now, and ensure our generation and next, have a country they can be proud of.

Remy Ilona: Abe I am
shocked that you rationalized murder and denied genocide so casually, because
its Igbos that were the victims.
Remy Ilona: Shaking my
head in shock! You claimed that Igbos started it all. How? Your own Yoruba tribesmen,
like.... were among the coupists of Jan '66. Not so? There are people that I'd
not have been so shocked to see them behaving as you are behaving, but
you!!!!!I am shocked beyond words. You denied that there was genocide. Well,
follow what your own kinsman Adekunle said and did.
Abe Wale Lawrence: My
brother, before we can make our world a better place, it's when we are ready to
confront wrongs in all ramifications with mighty weapon of truth. The statement
of Benjamin Adekunle showed how crude the military commander was, no right
thinking person would support such statement, and thanks to the regime of Gowon
for replacing him with another fairly reasonable military commander. Yes Igbo
military officers started the problem, study the whole event with much
objective mind without tribal sentiment. The Northerners took it too far,
naturally the Northerners seem to be violent, ethnically and religiously
intolerant, but we can't deny the obvious historical fact that Igbo young
military officers started extreme distrust and discord of the 60s. And point of
information, I have an Igbo angel as my fiancée, and again you and I belong to
the same faith. So my comment is without any tribal sentiment. Thanks my
brother
Remy Ilona: Abe I don't
think that you'll be reduced if you admit that you erred by denying that
genocide was carried out against the Igbos by all Nigerians...there were Yoruba
and Northern army officers among the coupists of Jan '66, I say again. You must
know this, but if you say you don't do more research.

Abe Wale Lawrence: We must
be able to identify the clear boundary between genocidal acts and mere civilian
casualties in war by examining all elements or features contain therein. The
rules of engagement of that time accommodated some mistakes in regards to
civilian casualty. You can't just dish out genocidal description to a carnage
that took place as a result of military confrontation. Genocidal act must
contain the elements intention and the actual wrong.

Remy Ilona: Abe I won't
say more, but would leave you with the following admonition...'he that denies
genocide is as he that carried it out'. Endeavor to be on the right side of
history.
Abe Wale Lawrence: My
brother, you can't use these guys view to judge. Soyinka ought rotten in life
jail or face execution for aiding rebels against the State. So he's a tainted
witness whose testimony lacks credibility
Abe Wale Lawrence" I can't
wish evil for my Igbo family, I love all tribes in Nigeria. I shared much with
Igbos than any other tribe
